Should we take seriously Donald Trump's threats against Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy?
Absolutely. I would even say, Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy is no longer safe in the U.S.
Trump’s threats to Zelenskyy aren’t just rhetorics anymore — they are now backed by facts.
On the 3rd anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion, the U.S. sided with Russia and North Korea against Ukraine, voting “No” in the U.N. for resolution calling Russia the aggressor and requesting withdrawal of the Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine.
Before the vote, Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Mariana Betsa told the assembly, "This war has never been about Ukraine only. It is about a fundamental right of any country to exist, to choose its own path and to live free from aggression.”
We live in a weird reality, where the person used to be known as the “leader of the free world”, is talking “partnership” with an international criminal enterprise, specializing in mass murders and ethic cleansing.
Trump, together with Russia, is actively trying to beat Ukraine to surrender — and not only that, his administration tried to extort $500 billion from Ukraine.
Trump’s administration explicitly wants Zelenskyy to sign off mineral rights on the occupied territories — so that the U.S. can mine lithium (and more) on territories, occupied by Russia. Because of Zelenskyy’s approval, these minerals won’t be “stolen goods” but suddenly legal.
If America accepts and profits from minerals mined at the occupied territory of Eastern and Southern Ukraine, this would legitimize military aggression as an acceptable way to advance economic interests. The very idea of sovereignty collapses.
The White House is turning into headquarters of an international criminal syndicate.
Which country Russia will invade for Trump next? Greenland? Canada? Putin has hundreds of thousand of combat-hardened troops eager to kill and loot.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said: “We risk that peace in Ukraine is actually more dangerous than the war that is happening now.”
She is not wrong.
Let me repeat the words of the Ukrainian representative:
”This war has never been about Ukraine only.
It is about a fundamental right of any country to exist, to choose its own path and to live free from aggression.”
